It might lack a particularly memorable title but don't be put off by that. While Tower Dwellers might tread a similar path to other tower defense games, it's still quite enjoyable to play through.

Offering charming graphics akin to The Settlers series of games, Tower Dwellers keeps the production values steady with a glimpse of a storyline to keep one interested. In reality all anyone is really going to be focused on is the action, but it's nice to see such an attempt being made.

Each level involves a series of waves of enemies, with players given coins for each foe they defeat. Those coins are used to construct towers, support buildings, and upgrade existing properties. It's typical stuff for the genre but Tower Dwellers does mix things up a little. Support buildings are linked to the tower they're placed nearest to, thereby affecting the type of troops that are created there. Soldiers, archers, and mages are amongst those available, with combinations possible dependent on what has been built. It's a fun and satisfying system with further flexibility offered by the player's ability to move where the troops will congregate.

At the end of each stage a series of stars are rewarded to the player depending on how well they've succeeded. These stars can then be spent on upgrades to further boost one's capabilities. What upgrades are unlocked depend upon which areas of the world map the player has completed, giving an air of a more flexible structure than most titles within the genre.

It's those little things that ensure that Tower Dwellers stands out and proves to be really quite fun. The lack of in-app purchases is quite the bonus too, leading to a meatier experience that feels increasingly uncommon within the genre. It's a potent combination indeed, and one that is bound to draw players in.
