Based on the beloved Dr. Seuss story, The Cat in the Hat - Read & Learn is an incredibly charming app for kids. It’s part storybook app, part interactive adventure, and it’s a lot of fun.

At its simplest, kids can read their way through the story or be guided by the app itself. Each scene is read out by an appealing voice that gets the timing just right, ensuring that the rhymes are always very charming and a great way to be reminded of the wonders of Dr. Seuss. You can stop and start the audio, as well as get it to read out individual words rather than whole phrases, proving ideal for kids learning to read. The best part is they won’t realise they’re learning as they do it.

As well as that side of things, you can also interact with many of the objects on screen. By tapping an object, the narrator speaks the name of it, but you can also fling balls around or manipulate bicycles. Tilting, swiping, and dragging all plays a role too. Sometimes, you can uncover a special star which unlocks a kind of mini-game. They’re very small, often involving answering questions about things, but it adds to the charm that The Cat in the Hat - Read & Learn exudes.

Offering the full story of The Cat in the Hat, there’s a ton of content here. It’s visually appealing, plus there’s the advantage of such a great audio track. You can easily skip ahead to a later part of the book too, if you’d rather focus on a particularly loved segment of the tale. Unfortunately, because of how the mini-games work you can’t opt to play them entirely separately, but that’s a small disadvantage in an otherwise positively delightful storytelling experience. Parents would be very wise to pick this up for their young offspring.
