Tap Sports Baseball Review

Tap Sports Baseball is a simple game all about timing. Those expecting an involving baseball sim are going to be disappointed (although the game does try away from the field), but those just wanting a quick session will at least briefly enjoy what it has to offer.

Players take it in turns to compete against other real players in this battle of the batting. There's no pitching to be seen here or running manually to steal a base. Instead, you're solely left to hit the ball wherever possible. Controls are incredibly simple, with you simply needing to tap the screen at the right moment in order to hit the ball. It takes a little more effort than you'd think though, so don't expect to be hitting home runs any time soon. At times, you get the choice to simply bunt or try to steal a base, adding a little to the limited depth here.

To an extent, that's all there is to Tap Sports Baseball. You take it in turns, working your way through the innings and occasionally getting frustrated when someone doesn't take their turn (there's no way to forfeit a match so this can happen often). It's pleasant enough but hardly complex.

Tap Sports Baseball's depth comes from the stuff that happens off the field. You can buy new players and their stats really do make a difference to how you fare. Using real-life players helps to make you feel more involved in the process.

That's also where the money side of things comes into it. There's a plethora of micro transactions that you can dive into here. You're not forced to but it is possible to buy your success. It's also where Tap Sports Baseball takes on a kind of management quality to it, and I found it more satisfying than simply hitting balls.

Because of that, Tap Sports Baseball ends up feeling disjointed. As a casual experience, it's only briefly fun but lacking variety to keep you interested for any length of time. As a management sim, it relies too heavily on your bank balance to be truly gripping. Expect this to be a title to entertain but only for a short time.
