The native iOS calculator is missing two things: simplicity and elegance. Sumhold brings both of these things to the table and much more with its stylish calculator that really puts the current Apple one to shame.

There aren’t any directions when Sumhold is first opened, but that’s because it doesn’t need them. Users are presented with a sleek calculator that features rounded buttons and a white and red color scheme. When it’s time to calculate, just tap on the buttons and Sumhold gets to work. What’s great is that it keeps track of long calculations on one easy-to-read line. The running total shows so there’s no need for confusing buttons that ultimately lead to frustration. Math equations that are no longer needed can be deleted by tapping on the little “x” in the corner.

Numbers can also be copy and pasted so users can quickly drop them into text messages, emails, and other apps without having to break out the pen and paper.

There’s really not much to complain about when it comes to finding faults. While Sumhold could use more buttons for advanced calculations, that isn’t the point of the calculator. It’s designed to be simple and easy-to-use. There are a couple improvements that would make it just a tad better, though, like an iPad version and a way to change the calculator’s colors to give it a customized look.

Sumhold is the perfect addition to anyone’s app library. I already plan to replace the native calculator app with this one because it’s just so much better in terms of looks and functionality. Thanks to Sumhold, iOS users will never have to worry about keeping a running total again and they can move on to more important things. At less than one dollar, it’s a great bargain.
