Bottom Line: The Mophie Space Back does something no other device does: it expands the storage space of an iPhone for media, and does so in a very portable and useful package.
We’ve looked at other devices that allow for the expansion of available storage on iOS devices, but none have done so in such a elegant and portable way as the Mophie Space Pack. Here’s a quick video introduction to the device:
On the surface, the Space Pack looks like any other Mophie battery case. But on the inside are additional smarts and storage to keep up to 32GB of media. This is facilitated by a special app from Mophie called Space. Take a look at the video below to get a better idea of how Space works:
My overall experience with the Space Pack has been great. The only shortfalls have to do with the restrictions of iOS and not the device itself. I’d love a way to offload more and integrate more data with the storage inside the Space Pack, but iOS just doesn’t allow it. Within the confines of what can be done, Space goes beyond what I’ve seen others do and does a great job of presenting and playing the stored media.
There are things that I would have liked to see in the Space Pack, sure. We all have dreams! For one, why not include a micro SD card slot or two on the inside to allow further expansion? It would be awesome to put in another 128GB of storage. I’d also like to see a couple solid holes in the case to allow for a wrist strap (yes, I am a bit crazy about this feature on cases). But overall the experience is fantastic and the Space app works perfectly, within the bounds of what iOS will allow.
The Space Pack is a bit expensive, but for anyone planning on getting a battery pack anyway, the added expense is worth it for the extra breathing room for media.
