This is exactly space invaders as you remember. Many of us played the first time round (*koff*). The charm about it is that it is actually by the original folks who brought it to us in 1978. Would have been nice if they gave us the same prices! The game essentially is a small space ship along the bottom, that has to shoot at the space invaders shooting and coming down towards you.

The thing I really loved about it, is that it looks exactly the same. It starts with the same screen The graphics are the same, it really is exciting when you see it, you really find yourself saying ‘awe’ at it when it loads.

The sounds of the game should be turned on when you play. This is another great thing about it, all remaining true to form.

Some changes are that you can chose the number of lives you have, which is great ( I really don’t like dying in my games). The controls also have options, which is a choice between drag, controls or accelerometer. That really is good that they implemented those choices. I usually prefer the accelerometer myself.

Also you can choose color background, toggle background, cellophane overview or monochrome. There is also an option to make the screen larger which gives you a bigger play area, a good thing.

The help menu goes through the controls, how to play, techniques & tricks, score, secret files and credits. Secret files is actually a little treat in itself. I won’t give away too much but it includes original drawings for the game.

Some little niggles would be how you can’t swipe left or right to go through the help files as is common interface in the iPhone. you have to click a very small arrow at the bottom of the screen.

There is not much negative about the actual game. It will be one that as a long time gamer you will appreciate and love, but it may not be as exciting for the newer generations. My main complaint about this is – what the heck is up with their pricing structure?! There is no way that this game should be that much money, they are completely ignoring the younger generation who won’t be tempted to play it. Also, they are just being mean to us fans.

Overall, if you are happy to part with your cash, it really is just like the original and for that reason I like having it on my phone. Also it’s nice that they included the retro ‘goodies’ in the secret files area. Good times.
