SOS Info Review

Despite the broken English scattered around some of the summary pages, SOS info is quite a bright idea for an app. It offers a place to store all kinds of valuable personal information, just in case something happens and others need to know all about you.

Setup takes a few minutes to get everything just right, but that's because it's quite comprehensive. Besides offering somewhere to highlight the best person to contact in case of an emergency, and other backup people too, it's possible to add your blood type, address, religion and Social Security number. Those are just the basics too. Other categories are available to enter any possible allergies or medication that the user is currently on as well as any gynaecological conditions, such as whether the user is currently pregnant or lactating. It's comprehensive stuff and very informative at a glance.

Besides the plethora of information that can be provided in case of a situation where you're able to inform someone of a condition, there's an alarm function that can either make noise or use the camera's flash to light up as an SOS morse code signal, plus a way of phoning the emergency services at the touch of a button. It's also possible to see where the nearest police station is, ideal for tourists in distress.

It all works reasonably well, too, although I did have some problems with the hotspots for buttons being slightly off target for how they appeared. Other than that, however, and SOS info is a potentially very valuable tool. It's even got the foresight of having an enlarged text mode for the visually impaired if they happen to need to consult it. Another clever idea comes in the form of changing the background of the iOS device to show emergency information so that there's no need to bypass a Pin lock.

Personal security apps are frequently expensive such as my most recent favorite iHelpPlus but, as always, $3.99 doesn't seem too expensive for peace of mind, especially for those with a lot of chronic conditions. This one ticks the correct boxes to appeal.
