Soccer Moves Review

Despite the name, Soccer Moves is much more of a puzzle game than it is a sports title. Solely focused on offensive play, each level of the game is a soccer-themed puzzle requiring players to negotiate the defense within a set number of moves. It's a fun mix of two popular concepts, proving quite entertaining to play through.

Starting out, things are pretty simple. Early on there are only one or two defenders to circumvent, mostly requiring players to run past them before passing to another character and scoring. This is the ideal time to get used to the control scheme. It's possible to drag players around to get them to move, as well as drag elsewhere on the screen in order to pass. It's a decent control method once understood but I did occasionally find myself slipping and trying to commit to the wrong kind of move. Once at the right moment to aim for goal, it's a simple matter of tapping on the goal net and tapping again to kick.

Alongside such tactile controls, it's also possible to make one player stay still for a moment, as well as undo or redo a move courtesy of a series of boxes at the top right corner of the screen. Again, it's fairly well explained. Further instructions come from the colored boxes surrounding opposing defenders, showing how far they can get and turning red if the upcoming shot would be blocked.

Soccer Moves could be a fairly easy game but restrictions are placed on how many moves the player can complete, adding quite the tactical edge to proceedings. Differing types of defenders, as well as bonus objectives to complete, further add to the challenge. Refreshingly, while in-app purchases are available they're not vital to success, and often can be circumvented through regular progression anyhow.

A fun mix of puzzle gaming elements with a soccer-based motif, Soccer Moves is a fairly original title and all the more fun for it. Cute to look at and simple to get to grips with, it's a heady mix for a successful title.
