It's a quite simple game, but Soccer Girl Adventure comes with a very important anti-discrimination message.

Once upon a time, I was part of a girl's soccer team. For my local area, it was a relatively revolutionary thing for the time, and we were very passionate in our efforts to be noticed. It wasn't a rags to riches story of overcoming adversity but we did ok. Soccer Girl Adventure is a similar tale of a girl overcoming stereotypes and judgemental attitudes, even if she does play soccer a heck of a lot better than I ever did.

Spread across 25 levels, players guide Sora, the aforementioned Soccer Girl, as she seeks out various bullies to prove that girls can play soccer just as well as boys. Many of the levels add a new villain to show off to, each requiring a different special move. Sora runs across the screen automatically with swipes dictating how she avoids the bullies. A swipe up makes her jump, a swipe down causes her to slide, with swipes to the left and right also initiating special moves. Each bully requires a different tactic so the levels require some fast reactions in order to adapt.

It's a pretty simple gaming mechanic and perhaps not the most exciting for long periods of play. However, a three star system and a simple upgrade system, allowing Sora to become tougher, goes some way to keeping things interesting. A story explained through cartoon style speech bubbles and animations reinforce the message of equality throughout.

Soccer Girl Adventure gets a little tricky in later stages, but it is a pretty straightforward game. The only technical flaws come from some slightly misunderstood inputs, but other than that, it's an attractive experience with a very important message. Given it doesn't take long to complete, I'm hopeful for more content in the future, though. Such a positive and original concept deserves regular support.
