Tapping into a similar kind of field to Huurd.it, Next is a music discovery app that's hopeful of finding the next big thing. It's pretty simple to use and the potential of finding new talent (and maybe even some friends) is certainly there.

Offering sign-ups via email, Twitter, or Facebook, users can quickly dive into finding out more or sharing their own content. Through the app, users can record audio and video footage of their piece of music before uploading it to share with others.

Each clip is 30 seconds long, with lengthier recordings via the artist's profile. Then it's just a matter of swiping to the left or right to rate them accordingly. It's simply done and the kind of thing that doesn't require much commitment. New videos don't include any fancy filters or anything like that. The focus is squarely placed on music content.

Thanks to such simplicity, it's fun to browse through Next. There's a chart for the clips with the highest likes so users can quickly see what's doing well. At the moment, it's an equal mix of original recordings and covers of popular tracks. For the budding musician, there's the fun of seeing one's likes gradually increase over time. The downside is there's limited communication involved. There's no way of commenting through the app, although users can find out each other's Twitter and Facebook details. One is restricted to liking new videos and following people to see when they upload new content.

That's a shame as Next has the potential to be quite a successful social networking app. It's easy to set up and quite stylish to browse through. With more focus on interaction, it could be quite the hit amongst the amateur music scene.
