Developer Araso Pandan calls Red Rusher a noir timing action game. In it, players control the main character, Duke, who has been betrayed by an organization that killed his family. Duke then meets up with a mad scientist who gives him a new body that he will use to destroy the organization that betrayed him.

In Red Rusher, it’s all about timing and the use of both hands as players will swipe, tap and hold multiple buttons on the screen to successfully rush through each level. These buttons will randomly appear in areas for players to quickly tap or swipe in the direction indicated to successfully strike down oncoming enemies. As long as players hit every button on time, they will get a good rating; if they hit the button perfectly, they’ll get a perfect rating. Players will also take a beating if they don’t hit the button at all which will lead to a ‘game over’ screen.

I didn’t get a ‘game over’ screen that often except for the boss battles which provide quite the challenge. Boss battles last much longer than a regular stage and as expected, provide for a far greater challenge. Players will see more buttons and two button combos that really keep them on the edge of their seat. These battles are great and really make the game far more enjoyable. Playing through each level is fun but can become a little repetitive even though they get more difficult as players reach the third and final stage.

Currently, there are only 3 stages with a total of 12 missions, 3 which are boss fights. It’s been said that there are plans to continually update new stages and episodes without charge.

Red Rusher provides players with a quick shot of excitement as they can beat the game inside 30 minutes, although it may take some a bit longer depending on how they handle each boss. Even though it’s short, what helps make this game last longer is the multiple leaderboards. Also, players will be rated by a 3 star rating on their performance throughout each level, so they can always go back and work to achieve a better rating and score.

Visually, Red Rusher offers a black and white look, with some red, for players to enjoy as they swipe their way through this game. I had a great time playing it and an even better time replaying it to improve my scores. Also, outside of just the gameplay, players will also be able to read further into the story by going through un-lockable episodes. This provides for some quick reading material while players wait for more content to release.
