The Whole Pantry might not be the most comprehensive of cookery apps but it works well as part recipe app, part lifestyle guide.

Food is our fuel. This is sometimes unfortunate given the allure of fast food and way too many unhealthy things out there. For those trying to be healthier and focus on wholefoods free of sugar, grain, and gluten, The Whole Pantry is the ideal app to get started. It might not offer an incredibly comprehensive selection of recipes, but it's a good starting point.

Immediately attractive to look at, The Whole Pantry exudes that healthy goodness feeling. Its imagery is rustic yet high-quality, much like the cooking contained within. It's easy to browse, too, with things clearly laid out.

The app is divided into a series of sections with the recipe of the day taking much of the focus. Beneath that are sections devoted to other recipes, guides, a favorites section, and a place that features books, films, and more that might motivate those trying to maintain a cleaner lifestyle.

Understandably, most users will be interested in the recipes available. 37 might initially sound quite good, but split up into numerous categories, The Whole Pantry does feel a little restricted on this front. For instance, only six main meal ideas is a bit poor and two salads is downright pitiful. Still, at least it's all about quality here. Each recipe is attractively displayed through a series of images, with simple-to-read instructions and ingredients lists backing things up. A handy abbreviation guide ensures that users quickly know if the item is fine for those pursuing a gluten free, vegetarian, vegan, or paleo diets. There's even room for some recipes for body scrubs.

The guides section is similarly appealing with information provided on how to de-stress appropriately, top ten super foods, as well as extensive features on how to eat well while trying to conceive or when pregnant. Despite the name, The Whole Pantry works better as a lifestyle guide than a recipe app thanks to such useful articles.

The Whole Pantry might not be as comprehensive as one would like but it's still a great place to check out for new and wholesome recipes, as well as advice on various parts of one's life. Its attractive layout makes it all the more appealing, and it's well priced.
