Although Multipad bills itself as a “stylish program that is always at your hand,” it’s actually a clunky little app that does little more than hold a limited number of hand written notes. While most note taking apps give you an unlimited number of pages to work with, here you have 72 scratch pads separated into 8 different pad sets. What does one do when he or she runs out of space?

Multipad is essentially a note taking app. It gives you 8 pad sets, each with 9 pads on which to scribble hand written notes. You can use a variety of colors and pen sizes and all changes are automatically saved, which means you don’t have to name a particular pad or worry about saving them. Each pad set shows thumbnails of the nine pads, and you can change pad sets by tapping the letters beneath the pad area.

If all you need is a way to capture a short shopping list, sketch a simple drawing, or maybe jot down a phone number in a hurry, Mutipad will do that for you. While the Notes app built into the iPhone will also handle most of the tasks Multipad does, it doesn’t allow you to draw, so Multipad has that going for it.

Multipad only holds a limited number of hand written notes, so while most note taking apps give you an unlimited number of pages to work with, here you have 72 scratch pads separated into 8 different pad sets. Switching between pad sets is fairly slow, and the process of changing pen sizes or colors is also quite sluggish. It would be nice if Multipad also allowed you to type in notes, which would make it more useful.

There are a lot of note taking and drawing apps for the iPhone, and while Multipad is quite inexpensive, I would recommend looking around before settling on it. It appears to be quite stable and works fairly well, but it is hardly the stylish app the author bills it as. Instead it is quite bare bones and is unlikely to satisfy most users.
