The stock video recording app in the iPhone isn’t the best. There is a noticeable lack of options and ability to tailor a video to fit different needs. Apple’s stock app doesn’t even allow for users to zoom in while video is being recorded. Fortunately, there are great developers out there that put out replacement third-party apps to make up for any lack in the stock apps. MoviePro is an app that gives users a lot more flexibility and options for shooting and sharing videos.

I personally don’t shoot a lot of video with my iPhone. When I do, I always just use the stock video app. Even for someone like me, I've come to realize that I need more options. Shooting video with MoviePro is simple and provides additional options that many users have craved for years. One notable feature, besides the ability to zoom in real time, is the option to set different video resolutions. Not all videos need to be shot in the highest quality. Being able to adjust the resolution allows users to easily create videos with smaller file sizes to send via email or SMS. Another great feature is the option to snap still photos while continuing to record video. However, the camera makes a shutter sound when a picture is taken and this sound is recorded on the video. There is currently no option for turning this sound off but muting the phone’s volume will prevent the app from making any sounds. This is a simple work around for a minor issue but I hope the ability to turn off the shutter sound becomes a new feature in upcoming releases.

The features mentioned above are but a few of my favorites. The app also touts many other features including the ability to adjust aspect ratios and frame rates and the option to upload videos directly to YouTube. One downfall I see is the fact that this app is only available for the iPhone. These features would really be useful for recording on the iPad, especially when creating videos for iMovie.

Anyone not completely satisfied with the options in Apple’s stock video app should definitely check this app out. MoviePro packs in a lot of very useful features, all for a very modest price of $0.99.
