Want to easily add music clips to Instagram or Vine videos without the use of full-blown editing software? Lomotif is the solution.
There’s been plenty of times before I’ve posted a video on Instagram or Vine that I’ve thought, “I wish I could have Rise of the Valkyrie or Dancing Queen playing in the background” (please, don’t judge). Having to export my video to my MacBook, before tinkering with it in iMovie and transferring it back just seemed like too much hassle for a 6/15 second video. Lomotif helps cut out the middle man and adds short music clips to video with no fuss at all, all in one app.
Those music clips come in the form of free 30-second iTunes previews, with a link to purchase the full version included. After choosing one clip or several, users are taken to an editing screen, where they must choose a compulsory title of some form, or edit the video portions by trimming them or changing their aspect ratio to fit the 1:1 ratio that is so popular with social media. It can then be uploaded straight to a variety of social media sites, though Vine users will have to save it to their camera roll first, before finding another third-party app to upload it through.
An internet connection is needed to access music, which obviously prevents offline usage of the app. Another slightly annoying feature is the title and the Lomotif stamp itself. Premium upgrades in other video editing apps enable users to remove this eyesore, but there’s unfortunately no option for that here.
Lomotif is a simple but effective video editing app that serves its purpose well, namely creating short music videos that can be shared instantly, and that makes it a winner in my book.
