Letters From Nowhere will last Hidden Object game fans a long time, but that's partly down to its restrictive energy system.

There's a stop/start effect to Letters From Nowhere: A Hidden Object Mystery that means it's sometimes tricky to get attached to. While there are things to do, and it's a quite entertaining if shallow Hidden Object game, that energy bar seems to reduce to 0 far too quickly.

Unlike many other Hidden Object games, Letters From Nowhere: A Hidden Object Mystery is a freemium experience. Players complete quests involving finding certain objects in various different scenes leading to the acquisition of experience points. Steadily leveling up through such means, players then have more quests to negotiate and so forth. It's a simple concept but one that has known properties when it comes to being oddly beguiling.

Letters From Nowhere: A Hidden Object Mystery succeeds there reasonably well. It mixes things up, with many objectives proving quite different. Sure the general theme of finding objects remains the same, but switching from silhouettes to names and slightly cryptic clues ensures it's interesting. There are hints available too, which help ease the process, but they come at a price that's best attained through spending real money.

Alongside conventional hidden object scenes are a few mini-games, mostly involving simple puzzles and jigsaws. Again, it does a sound job of keeping things different. While I never felt particularly drawn into the storyline of Letters From Nowhere: A Hidden Object Mystery, focused on moving onto the next quest, such familiar yet entertaining mechanics kept me keen.

The problem lies in the stop/start approach that this game takes. Waiting for the energy bar to refill is frustrating when one is in the zone and keen to play more of Letters From Nowhere: A Hidden Object Mystery. It's just a little too restrictive for comfort, but clearly geared towards encouraging in-app purchases. As a title to drop in on for a short while at a time, it's fun, but it'll leave casual gamers itching for more.
