While not a new genre to the “grab-and-go” gaming sector, LD50 brings a fresh new look to the table. Sporting 3D graphics and a catchy score, this isn’t your run-of-the-mill grid game. Destructive and dynamic environments are a serious plus, as no two games you play will be the same.

The best part about LD50 is the ease of use it brings to the device. Hopping in and out of a match is as easy as it gets with a “pick up where you left off” feature, similar to Rolando. In the middle of a campaign when the boss walks by? No problem. This aspect alone makes the game difficult to criticize. Additionally, the landscapes and weapon types are vast. Being able to control a missile via accelerometer is a welcome ingredient, albeit a bit difficult to control.

Speaking of controls, the pitch, yaw, and power of your missile is tuned via “control wheel”. Zooming in and out can be a pain, as can be navigating the camera around the mountainous terrain to achieve the viewing angle of your preference. The lack of a multiplayer mode is a serious detriment to LD50′s groundwork. With a perfect set-up for it, there’s no excuse to leave your desk mate out of this one. The addition of a WiFi competitor mode would seal the deal with a golden star.

Already sporting a “Lite” version of the game, the purchase of this one depends solely on what you think you’ll get out of the app. Since the game always picks up where you left off, the selling point here is in the convenience. I can’t fully recommend the purchase of this app until they’ve implemented a multiplayer aspect, though there’s still plenty of fun to be had. Unfortunately, there’s not a whole lot of replay value once you get the gist of it all. Nevertheless, a quick fix has never been easier in a game like this.
