With Jetset: A Game For Airports, the author’s intention was to create a game that air travelers could pick up and play while waiting at the airport for their flights. It makes good on its intentions by using location services that allow you to unlock location specific souvenirs, which can then be shared with friends via Facebook. The game definitely has broader appeal than just for travelers though, with fast paced game play that is humorous and interesting.

Jetset: A Game For Airports is a game where you play as airport security. Your job is to screen passengers. You view each passenger’s clothes and carry on luggage, as well as a list of prohibited items, and decide to allow or disallow items as necessary. The game provides fast paced game play and rewards you with in-game souvenirs that can be transferred to Facebook or viewed in the Snowglobe app.

When you start the game a single passenger walks up to the security area. It is up to you to tap on anything that is prohibited, which might be the hat the passenger is wearing or the camera in their bag, for example, and then allow them to proceed on their flight. If you fail to remove something that is prohibited, you have caused a security violation. If you remove something that isn’t prohibited, though, then you’ve just caused a rights violation.

These violations count against you, and if you get five of them, the game is over. Also, as passengers queue up to airport security, the line gets longer and longer. If the line gets too long then the game also ends.

As you screen passengers the list of prohibited items changes. It may start off reasonably enough with things like shoes being forbidden, but before you know it pants, shirts, and even humus might be added to the list. It can become really challenging as this list is very dynamic, and changes constantly. It is very fast paced and individual sessions don’t last long.

What makes this game special is the hilarity of it all. Not only do you get to strip passengers before sending them off on their flights, but audio announcements aired during game play inform you that the ever changing rules are completely arbitrary. The announcer says many absolutely absurd things. It’s all quite humorous and really adds to the game’s appeal.

As far as replayability goes, the game uses the iPhone and iPod Touch’s built-in location services to determine which airport you are closest to, which in turn determines the airport you are working security at. Although all airports look the same, you can unlock different souvenirs depending on which one you are working at. You can then post these souvenirs to your Facebook account and even share them with friends. You can also view them in-game in a snowglobe or in the separately available Snowglobe app.

Jetset: A Game For Airports offers fast paced game play that is humorous but challenging. It has some great social networking features, including integration with Facebook. If you can appreciate its humor and you enjoy this kind of game play, you will find a lot to like here. If you are an international traveler, you can also unlock a host of souvenirs.
