Voice recordings are one of those things that most people take for granted, but can really come in handy when needed. Sure, there is a pretty handy voice memo app that comes pre-loaded on the iPhone now, but with it you are confined to sharing the memos via text or email.
iTalk Recorder Premium is a high quality voice recorder made by Griffin, the kings of iPhone cases and FM transmitters. The app is incredibly simple, but offers a bit more flexibility than the standard Apple App. The real difference maker, for me, is the built in Dropbox support that iTalk offers. If you haven’t used Dropbox, it’s a wonderful online sync tool that gives you 2GB of storage for free (more GB’s for more $’s) and can be accessed from any computer. This allows you to never be stuck without the files you need, which is wonderful for when you are on the go.
Also of note is that the app lets you change the voice quality for better sound/data size control. There are three quality settings: good (11.025 kHz), better (22.05 kHz), and best (44.10 kHz). To my untrained ear the best sounds about like the Apple Voice Memo app, but all three sound alright for typical daily use.
The one thing that iTalk Recorder Premium doesn’t do that the Apple app does is give you the ability to shorten audio. You can always shorten the audio post recording in an app like GarageBand, but it would be a nice addition in a later update.
For the addition of DropBox alone I think iTalk Recorder is worth the price of admission, but even without it the app is very well made and is simple to use. If you’re unsure of the purchase, there is a free ad-supported app available. But then go buy the app. You’ll feel good about your purchase.
