A little bit like Diablo, Iron Knights is a sometimes fun hack-n-slash game; assuming you can look past the messy interface and the overly-encouraging in-app purchase messages.

There’s a story in there somewhere but you’re better off assuming that it’s a fight between good and evil, and you’re one of the good guys. That’s about as deep as it gets, really. The game slowly introduces its various elements and, in time, it becomes apparent that the depth comes from its various ways of mixing up battle.

Primarily, Iron Knights is a hack n slasher. You move around each arena with a thumb on the left sided virtual control stick, while your right hand dictates what move you perform. There’s the basic slashing attack but there’s a few special moves too, to keep things more interesting.

Working your way through each stage, coming up against yard trash mobs, as well as bosses, the key to encouragement stems from the many pieces of equipment you acquire. You can upgrade this equipment too, adding to the reasons why it’s worth sticking with.

Besides the extensive looting and a helpful levelling up system, you can join together with others which works to expanding the fun behind Iron Knights.

ironknight3The problem is that Iron Knights is pretty messy to look at. There are almost too many different menus to explore and each is a bit fiddly and unappealing. Plus, soon enough, many suggestions are made regarding buying an in-app purchase package or two. Say “no” to one and a cheaper one is offered. It’s annoying intrusive.

That’s not to say that Iron Knights isn’t quite fun in its way, but its unwieldy nature is a bit off-putting at times. Stick through the messiness and enjoy an occasional dungeon crawling thrill, but don’t expect classiness.
