Since the iPhone’s camera continues to get better, many have used it to capture impressive pictures. While the camera improvements have caused iPhoneographers to grow in number, so have the apps available.

Taking pictures and practicing the art of iPhoneography can be limiting and boring at times. There’s project 365 for photographers who wish to capture a year’s worth of photos, but it’s still not quite tailored specifically to iPhones. A new app that I recently discovered not only provides photographers with assignments, but it also helps them to take better pictures.

iPhotography Assignment Generator currently features over 75 different assignments. Users have the option to choose from a list or let the app pick one randomly. Each assignment has different examples to help users with techniques or inspiration. The assignments vary widely and range from taking pictures at the local zoo to using lines to direct the way viewers see photos. For example, one assignment is My Favorite Room. iPhonographers use a wide angle overview shot and closer images of pictures to show details in order to capture the essence of their favorite room.

Beginners who need a little help can tap on Camera tips to learn how to control the iPhone’s settings. In addition to tips, the app also comes loaded with daily reminders so users can remember to take pictures, it doesn't require any network connection and it even is possible to share photos in a Flickr group.

What’s great about iPhotography Assignment Generator is that it isn’t another photography app with filters and effects. It’s quite unique and is perfect for photographers who need inspiration or ideas. However, there are only a few improvements that would make it even better like more detailed tips for beginners, a bigger selection of photo assignments and a better UI. While the app is easy to navigate, it isn’t exactly easy on the eyes. At times, the app just doesn't appear to fit correctly on the iPhone screen. The biggest disappointment comes when setting a daily reminder as it is simply a list of instructions and not a direct way to create one within the app.

Although iPhotography Assignment Generator could use some improvements, it still has an excellent concept. Hopefully a future update makes it even better, but beginners should still consider adding it to their collection. For those who have an SLR/Advanced Point and Shoot camera, be sure to check out the developer’s other app: Photography Assignment Generator. It features more assignments and scavenger hunt lists. It has the same UI and concept and there is a free version of it available to try.
