Frontline Commando: D-Day is a third-person point-to-point shooter based during World War II throughout the Normandy countryside. The game features 145 missions each with three set goals for players to accomplish while earning rewards and cash to purchase new weapons. Players also earn experience and receive gold each time they level up. Gold only comes in small amounts for purchasing smaller items. If players want the most powerful weapons, armor, or special packs, they will need to spend real money on purchasing more Gold. However, it’s not necessary at all and you can still enjoy the game without those powerful upgrades.

Most mission goals are to simply beat the mission and to beat it in less than 2 minutes. It shows how quick and fast paced the gameplay can be. It’s fun, although there are moments that could have been improved to make the fast-paced gameplay even more exciting, especially with the character movement.

Frontline Commando: D-Day goes point-to-point with no free roaming as players only control their weapons and cover. Once the enemies are defeated, the game automatically moves the player forward to the next location. What makes it interesting is that players have control of their character (like a runner) and are able to avoid land mines by pressing left or right arrows and can also avoid tripping over objects by sliding their finger upwards. This may sound like a lot of fun, except it’s not. It needs more effort as it is poorly executed and something that only gets in the way.

It’s fun to take cover and shoot at a number of different enemies that are hiding behind destructible objects. It’s also nice to pull out a grenade or call in artillery strikes when dealing with intense situations such as being pinned down by a tank. Also, players can take control of a stationary gun and an anti-aircraft gun during specific missions. However, one negative about the shooting aspect is that it is way too easy to get a headshot which lessens the challenge. Also, all of the fun moments eventually become a bit boring, easy and much repetitive.

Frontline Commando: D-Day has some decent maps for players to make their way through. However, they will be repeating areas on multiple occasions which will end up draining their interest. The goals may be slightly different each time around and might have a bit more difficulty added to them, but it still feels like the same process over and over again, even with it having different times of day. Even so, the game is still enjoyable and will provide for hours of gameplay without purchase. Players will still need to take a break on multiple occasions, not only because of the repetitive missions, but also the voiceovers.

This ain’t no picnic, son!
