Fly Catbug Fly! Review

Any game that stars a cat automatically grabs my attention. Throw a flying cat with ladybug wings into the mix and my mind is blown. Fly Catbug Fly! is an endless helicopter genre game based off the popular cartoon series. The game stars the loveable Catbug character who has a charming and childlike personality, and the objective is to make it through 9 different locations all while avoiding obstacles and collecting objects to earn money to help boost the top score through power-ups and upgrades.

Controlling Catbug is difficult at first, but players will get the hang of it after the first few tries. In order to control the flying cat, players must push on the screen to make him go up and then let go of the screen to allow the little guy to go down. As they guide Catbug, it’s essential to catch all the objects while flying. Catbug holds onto these objects and they are cashed in by flying through the random portals that show up throughout the game. The tricky part is avoiding the dangerous terrain along the way. Crashing into things three times results in the end of the game where players are shown their high score and given the opportunity to purchase items in the store.

The store allows players to buy power-ups to help them fly further, stats to improve Catbug, friends who have different powers, and goodies like costumes, glasses, and hats to customize Catbug. While things are locked at first, players can unlock objects when they earn enough money to buy them. Additionally, there are worlds to unlock that require players to fly a certain distance in the previous world. For those who like to compete with friends, there are eight different Game Center leaderboards to climb and a handful of achievements to earn.

There’s little not to love about Catbug. The graphics look great and the adorable sound effects will instantly put a smile on anyones' face. Hopefully more features are added later, like more content and upgrades, but there’s plenty to keep players occupied for a while.

Fly Catbug Fly! is perfect for players of all ages and types. At the price of less than one dollar and no in-app purchases or upgrades, there’s plenty of fun and replay value to enjoy. I highly recommend adding this one to the collection today.
