FitnessFast won't win prizes for its looks or interface but it's a comprehensive selection of fitness based tools that makes it great for exercise fans.

Within that unremarkable exterior and for that low price of $0.99, FitnessFast packs a lot in. It might not have the cleanest of interfaces or the friendliest of ways to add workouts, but fight through that and it's certainly comprehensive.

In all, the app offers a way to track workouts, individual exercises, performances during such activities, sleep patterns, body stats and even throws in a community section offering help and advice. Oh, and did I mention the workouts that can be downloaded for free, thereby offering the perfect foundations to exercising well? Yup, it's pretty comprehensive.

Issues do emerge in terms of inputting data, however. Most notably, the process involved in adding a workout. Users have to tap to the right on the pencil symbol to edit before tapping the plus sign to the left to add something. It's a relatively minor thing but oddly confusing and unnecessary in practice. Why there's no way to just add straight away is a question that users will find themselves pondering frequently while using FitnessFast. Once a workout has been created, it then requires each exercise to be added before it's of much use. Once the app has been set up properly and used regularly, it's less of a big deal but it is a little unintuitive in the early days of use.

The available exercises are extensive and I had no problem finding all the exercises I performed at the gym. All the better for novices, an animation is displayed for most exercises making it easy to determine what's involved and whether one has picked the right exercise. Entering the reps involved is simple to do as well as duplicate. Entering cardio exercises such as running or cycling is easy, too, but the ability to choose imperial or metric measurements at time of entry rather than en masse for all exercises would have been welcome.

Body stats provides a useful resource for those tracking their weight with an automatic BMI and body fat calculator helping matters. Everything can be tracked historically, also. It's a similar tale with the sleep section, along with an alarm that can be set with either a chime or music.

The community forum is a neat addition, although I wouldn't consider it a replacement for other more focused exercise forums. As a helpful starting point, it does the job.

That's a fine way of describing FitnessFast on the whole. It does the job admirably, but its odd control method does let the side down a little. There's no fancy presentation here but FitnessFast will keep gym fans happy once they've got everything set up to their liking.
