Facetune Review

We're all self conscious people, to an extent. Look at a self portrait and how easy is it to notice the blemishes and wrinkles that no one else really sees? Very easy. Fortunately, there are plenty of photo editing programs out there to correct all that. Indeed, there's a whole industry created out of photoshoppery, to improve the looks of models and celebrities in magazines and posters. It's expensive and complicated, though, so it's lucky that iOS owners get a glimpse of that through an app such as FaceTune.

FaceTune is an app that focuses on one sole important part of photo editing: the human face. It offers a series of options to sort out all manners of imperfections from yellow teeth to stray hair or spots and wrinkles. For the looks conscious, it's an ideal and relatively quick tool to use.

It's easy, too. A selection of clearly laid out options are available, with each implemented either by a tap of the screen or stroking motion. Zooming in is a typical matter of pinching fingers together. The effects are quite noticeable, too. Not noticeable in the obviously photoshopped sense, once implemented correctly, but in FaceTune's bid to clearly sort out a few problems on someone's face. It doesn't take long to do and there's an undo button each step of the way.

Once the image is completed, all the usual sharing methods are available such as various social networks, as well as emailing or saving to the camera roll. It's as simple as that.

FaceTune isn't an app about adding superfluous filters or HDR style effects. Its primary focus is to be subtle in a way that means others wouldn't be able to tell the difference. For that reason, it might not be the most exciting apps to mess around with (although it is possible to stretch someone's face to grotesque proportions which is quite weird), but it is quite practical. For those who hate seeing a rogue spot or wrinkle negatively affect a portrait, it's a convenient solution.
