If you find yourself in iPhone To Do list purgatory, caught between the various spartan listing apps and complex life-managers, this beautiful and highly functional new event manager may be just what you’ve been looking for.

I will be the first to admit that since porting over from the Palm platform, I’ve been on the lookout for a well-featured task manager that isn’t overly complex; that is, a simple yet functional app that lists upcoming events and tasks with a graphical interface worthy of my iPhone. EventHorizon fills this gap nicely with a highly customizable, gorgeous event manager that is reminiscent of a Today-type screen.

The app displays upcoming events such as work due dates and holidays based on an item’s priority in its ‘Reminders’ area. The sections are color-coded and labeled Past, Urgent, Approaching and Normal based on user-defined notice periods. Items can be added manually in the ‘Events’ area; EventHorizon also pulls and displays events from your device’s built-in Contacts, such as birthdays and anniversaries. And your data can be exported and backed up via email. The program’s strengths lie in the fact that most aspects of what is displayed is customizable. Users have the ability to hide, rename, delete or add categories. Icons can be imported if they have a URL. The number of Urgent reminders can be displayed as an icon badge count–or not. You can also choose to display icons, contact photos or neither. Very nice.

EventHorizon’s shortcomings are because of limitations placed on its developers by Apple. As clearly pointed out in the app’s description and web site, it does not integrate with the built-in calendar and cannot provide you with pop up alerts or alarms.

EventHorizon is a straightforward, modestly priced task/event manager wrapped in a very pleasing interface that makes a useful adjunct to your device’s calendar. I think it’s a keeper.
