As the name suggests, Endless Road is an endless racer as players attempt to escape a collapsing road. It's a fun, if flawed, game.

Endless Road isn't the most exciting of titles. I think, rather than call it uninspired, I'm going to declare it "minimalist," much like the game's appearance. It provides exactly what's needed and nothing more. In its own special way, that simple looking style makes it all the more memorable than more garish endless runners out there.

Players must guide their car away from the collapsing road, while maintaining a steady speed so that they don't fall behind and into the hole forming behind them. It's as simple as that but, of course, it's not actually that simple. The car doesn't maintain its speed on its own. Instead, it has to race over red go faster lines which keep it progressing at speed. Don't go too fast, however, as that can lead the player to fly off the road ahead. It sounds tricky in theory but, for the most part, one just needs to concentrate on keeping ahead of the collapse.

There are gray lines available which slow the player down but with the basic car, these are rarely needed. Other obstacles such as rival cars, walls and police cars pave the way to a dangerous route. Fortunately, controls are simple with taps to the left or right changing the direction. Endless Road is immensely easy to learn, belying its relative difficulty to get particularly far.

A series of challenges are available, adding reason to persevere as well as providing a way of gaining more coins. These coins can be used to buy upgrades, such as a bomb that destroys the cars around the player, or a nitro boost. Collect enough of them and it's possible to buy a faster vehicle.

This is, admittedly, where I'm surprised that Endless Road is a $0.99 game. Its coin structure lends itself more to being freemium, given the vast quantity needed to buy new cars. A lot of grinding is needed to really get anywhere which damages its replayability chances. It's a fun game to play for a short time, but the ever sinking feeling that more money needs to be invested, affects that urge to keep plugging away at it.
