Hidden Object gaming enthusiasts know exactly what to expect from G5 Entertainment's releases: spookiness and object seeking. That's precisely what Dream Catchers: The Beginning offers. Story wise it's one of the more interesting games, with the only significant issues stemming from Dream Catchers: The Beginning's insensitivity to one's touch when looking for objects.

Players control a man trying to figure out what's happened to his sister, after discovering she's fallen into an endless sleep while working at a boarding school. Obviously there's much more than meets the eye here, so expect to see a fair share of ghosts and supernatural occurrences. Given that much of the game exists within a dream world, Dream Catchers: The Beginning certainly leaps about in terms of location.

Gameplay is the usual mix of challenges. Some scenes involve combining items in order to get past certain obstacles, while others simply involve exploring the surrounding landscapes. Puzzles in the form of mini-games also play a prominent role, with the usual bunch of jigsaws and logic puzzles. The hints/skip button takes a while to recharge and some of the puzzles can be quite taxing, so expect to take a while on some conundrums.

There's a comfortable supply of Hidden Object scenes with invariably one object proving useful to overcoming some form of barrier. These Hidden Object scenes are fairly standard in terms of challenge but, as mentioned, are pretty picky with picking up tactile responses. I found some items needed a few taps to truly be recognized, which was a bit infuriating at times - especially when uncertain if the object is the correct one.

That's a shame as otherwise Dream Catchers: The Beginning is pretty pleasant to play. It's the usual cliche of being the kind of game for fans rather than anyone else, but that works just fine for this series of games. Its slightly harder difficulty curve is sure to provide more value for money, too.
