Contranoid is an appealing two player mash-up of Pong and Arkanoid.

Contranoid is kind of like Pong but not. It’s also kind of like Arkanoid but, well, not. What I do know is that it’s a pretty fun two player game, easily entertaining you and a friend.

Each player controls a paddle on either side of the screen. You have to bounce balls back and forth, attacking the other player’s walls. These walls blend into the background of the game but are actually blocks, much like in Arkanoid. Clear the way and you can defeat your opponent.

It’s actually pretty tricky to do so, often posing quite a challenge from even an average opponent but it’s still pretty fun. You can make games last longer by making the blocks smaller and more plentiful too, as well as collect some power-ups along the way. These can fling many balls at the blocks or they can hinder you by reducing the size of your paddle.

For those wanting to play alone, you can always opt for a single player session too with the game's AI putting up quite a challenge.

Regardless of how many of you there are, it's all very Arkanoid-ish and pleasant fun because of it. With an oldy-timey kind of feel to its presentation, Contranoid soon ends up rather charming.
