We’ve all seen the TV shows and movies that make us want to have our very own soundtrack, right? If nothing else, it looks incredibly useful to be able to hear a piece of music and immediately figure out what’s going to happen next in one’s life. Chicago Avenue Moon won’t predict the future (aww), but it will give its users a chance to have their very own musical score accompany them in their day to day life.

Chicago Avenue Moon is a clever app, and one that only really grows on its users the longer it’s used. At first, it seems a little gimmicky. Using a mixture of GPS location, the time of day, and even the phase of the moon, the app changes its sounds depending on what’s going on. The more one uses it, the more the differences are noticeable though. Chicago Avenue Moon really does change depending on what’s going on, and it’s pretty cool.

chicagoavenuemoon4chicagoavenuemoon5The description within the app explains that it’s for the mundane parts of one’s life, such as the daily commute or walk to the store. In which case, don’t expect anything too dramatic here; subtle changes are afoot. It’s clever stuff though and it does encourage one to see what happens next.

The app keeps track of various statistics such as how long one has been listening for and what distance has been travelled. More interesting information such as the most common direction taken and how many full moons there have been is also offered.

Chicago Avenue Moon is an interesting experiment indeed. It’ll subtly draw one in, enticing its users to see how things change. It certainly managed to spruce up my regular walks, and made a pleasant change from silence or more traditional music.
