A fun and exciting multiplayer Hold'Em style poker game, although several frustrating flaws can make gameplay less enjoyable at times.

Online poker has exploded in popularity over the course of the last few years thanks to the convenience of playing from any location along with having a great social element to it. And now, Konami Digital Entertainment aims to bring the thrilling online experience to the iPhone - but have they done enough to impress both poker veterans and new players alike?

There are several different types of poker out there, and Casino League focusses on what is probably the most popular form of poker; Texas Hold'Em. In Casino League, players battle it out in three different modes in order to reign champion over the other players at their table. These modes are Casual, League and VIP.

The game itself is incredibly simple to play, and manages to give players great control over their style of play while eliminating the possibility of scaring off newer poker players with an overwhelming array of options. Helpful hints are also offered throughout poker games, and I was very impressed to see the game telling me that there was no point in folding as I could continue to play in the round for free - which could be a crucial piece of advice to some players.

As online poker relies heavily on other players, this can bring it's own problems. It was obvious that in certain games that some players had left their phone unattended and didn't quit the game, which meant an infuriating wait for the game to automatically fold for that player. There is also a table limit of four players, which is something I found incredibly confusing. Other apps accomodate for up to eight players at any one time and so hopefully we will see this game updated to support more players in the near future.

In League Mode - my personal favorite - players must pay a buy-in of tickets (some of which are free, others are optional purchases). If the player then ranks highly in this league they might win back diamonds. The game also features challenges such as getting a full house during a game but puzzlingly, these challenges have to be purchased in order to take them on.

Casino League without a doubt ranks highly in the sparse market of playable poker games available on iOS, although I don't see the developers of Zynga Poker or World Series of Poker quivering in their boots anytime soon.
