Burning Monkey Puzzle Lab is a dropping blocks genre game in the style of Tetris or Columns. Like games of this style, pieces drop from the top and you need to rotate and move them to match the other pieces at the bottom of the screen. But this game adds in a bunch of game play variations and power-ups. One major difference from the standards of this genre is that in most of the modes in this game the pieces separate when they hit the base and all fall to the lowest point in their column.

The game includes 5 different play modes. With everything from casual play (Zen Mode) to a Hextris type game (Hex Bonding), to the mission mode. All are modes well done and are fun to play. The mission mode is interesting — you have different goals and game play methods for each level.

The controls are fairly straight forward — tap to rotate the piece, swipe down to send to the base.

Burning Monkey Puzzle Lab is a fun game and the best of this genre available in the store. There are enough differences to make this game worth a look even if you are bored with the genre. And it’s a great deal at $2.99.
