Bravura - Quest Rush Review

Part RPG, part hack-n-slasher, and part auto-runner, Bravura - Quest Rush is certainly varied. It's also quite delightful to look at and the ideal game to dip into while on the move. Combined, that's a pretty successful package of elements.

Each stage of Bravura - Quest Rush only lasts around 90 seconds, with players dictating the combat side of progression. While they can swipe to the side in order to leap back, all other gesture driven controls are focused on fighting one's way through hordes of enemies or collecting items amongst the landscape. Each level looks almost circular as players side-scroll their way along. It's a fairly unique style and one that is immediately appealing and attractive.

Combat is relatively straightforward with gestures up, down, and right providing the blows. Exagarrated sweeps are needed which take a moment to adjust to, but it's otherwise a quite effective system. A certain amount of strategy is required in order to use the limited time effectively, such as by remembering to dodge backwards for a second in order to have the time to set up a ranged attack rather than a close-quarters blow. It's also possible to tap on the screen to destroy projectiles or collect berries and other items.

Each stage of Bravura - Quest Rush is comprised of a series of quests which also dictate how many stars one earns upon completion. It's fairly simple stuff but that's exactly why this game succeeds at being something to dive into every now and then.

Given the player is rarely alone, thanks to a team of companions that gradually emerge, it's fortunate that there's a basic upgrade system. It's simple stuff and I'd have preferred a little more flexibility but it works well at offering a reason to keep on playing.

Consistently simple to play but not necessarily easy to win, Bravura - Quest Rush is a very pleasant experience. Such a focus on time could have created an overly urgent game but it works well in providing plenty of fun in a short space of time. Now, if only there could be GameCenter support thrown in for us achievement addicts.
