For those of us who have a sedentary lifestyle with an office job it’s difficult to get out and find time to move around during the day to stay active. There are more and more apps and devices such as the Nike Fuel Band that try to encourage us to be a little more active each day. The iPhone has become a valuable tool for helping us track our daily activity and improve over time using apps such as Every Body Walk!. Every Body Walk! easily and effectively tracks user’s walks and helps to chart distance, calories and time elapsed during each walk.
With so many exercise-tracking apps in the App Store it can get a little overbearing trying to find an app to suite our needs. Some have features we love while at the same time we find those same apps lack some key elements. There are few “one size fits all” apps so that is why it can be beneficial to carry several apps that do one job really well. Every Body Walk! certainly does what it advertises to do and does it well. It’s designed to only track distance walked and gives users an estimate of how many calories they’ve burned. The app uses the GPS built into the iPhone which gives accurate readouts on distance traveled. Every Body Walk! does not count steps, however, so users looking for this feature will have to look elsewhere.
Simplicity is something I look for when adopting an app into my life. There is something to be said for developers that can take a function and give it an elegant interface with a beautiful design. Every Body Walk! has an easy-to-use interface, free of complicated settings and toggles. It’s also very easy on the eyes. Upon first launch the app will ask for the user’s name and weight. After that, it can be put to use immediately and incorporated into user’s walking routines. The app needs no further instructions since its interface is so intuitive. Once a walk is completed, Every Body Walk! displays a summary of the time elapsed, calories burned and distance traveled, complete with a map showing the route that was taken. Walk summaries are saved to be able to look back at past walks to track progress and compare distances and times.
As with any app in this category, I’m sure every user could put together a substantial wish list of features they wished the app incorporated. I have a wish list of my own for Every Body Walk! but I don’t believe this app was designed to be an all-in-one solution to track my every move. It was designed to simply track distance, calories burned and time of my walking routes. This free app does exactly this and nothing more. It’s simple, accurate and gets the job done.
