BeBop Blox Review

BeBop Blox is a cute and charming puzzle app for toddlers that adults will enjoy as well. BeBop Blox is a brightly-colored and musical puzzle app with Tangram elements that young children - through the use of stacking blocks - can use to create playful shapes including a train, boat, camel, or whale as well as other fun animal shapes. Gameplay is simple as children are guided in their building with the use of block templates which one fills. I admire that, although there is a moment where the more complex design can be seen. Building begins from the bottom up, allowing children to slowly add pieces - exercises that later may help them construct their favorite designs with their own building blocks.

There are simple puzzle details included as well, and players will need to choose blocks that correspond to the template shapes. I enjoy how the building blocks to be used revolve around the main structure being built, adding mild train elements as well as a slight vintage playroom feel. I admire the wonderful juxtapostion of the traditional looking blocks with the whimsy seen as the fun Bop creatures seen within the building blocks come to life with charming kinetic action that children will find unique and engaging.

There is certainly a lot going on within the animated building blocks; including upbeat music, faint animal noises, and confetti cannons that children can trigger with a touch. A tap of each block will change its angle slightly, turning off the animation and sounds while isolating the sound effects to then allow children to layer these sound effects to the jazzy music. This creates a sophisticated music app for toddlers and preschool age children as well, although to an adult eye the resolution may not be quite high enough - an issue young children will not be concerned about.

I have had a lot of fun with BeBop Blox as I enjoy the sense of style this app has to offer - including the classic wood details seen on the main menu for choosing a puzzle. Young children will find this app intuitive and upbeat. As an adult, I appreciate this app’s ability to include many animated moving bits and music and sound effects without making this app overly busy, overwhelming, or distracting. They makes it a very nice choice of application for young children to enjoy with their families.
