Eggs are good to eat, but they’re even more fun for smashing. Parents, teachers, and other authority figures deny as much, but it’s indisputable scientific fact.
Baby Bird Bros by PlayCreek is an egg-smashing line-drawing game that’s simple to latch onto, though it takes some practice before stages end in success and not a gooey, yolky mess. Inspired by Flight Control and similar fare, Baby Bird Bros shakes up the old formula a little by forcing the player to concentrate on the center of the screen instead of giving equal attention to every corner.
Each stage kicks off with a bunch of multicolored eggs slowly rolling towards the middle of the playing field. Players must draw lines connecting two or more eggs of the same color. When the similarly-colored eggs roll into each other, they disappear. If, however, two eggs of different shades collide – or if any egg bashes into a hazard or an object – the game is over. If the player can keep order for a certain amount of time, they’re allowed to progress to the next level.
It’s preferable to connect three or more eggs of the same color, since doing so rewards the player with a power-up. Power-ups can eliminate all on-screen eggs of a specific color, bomb away all eggs within a blast radius, or fire off spears that wipe out eggs without prejudice. The further the player gets into the game, the faster the eggs roll and the harder it becomes to dodge obstacles as well as “rival” eggs.
Baby Bird Bros is fun for a time, though line-drawing games of its ilk aren’t rare. As a consequence, the appeal of Baby Bird Bros wanes pretty quickly for anyone that’s not an avid fan of action/puzzle titles. Nevertheless, it’s free, so it wouldn’t hurt to pick this one up for a morning commute. It should go well with a coffee and an Egg McMuffin.
