Alt Photo is an easy to use photo capture and editing app. It includes most of the built-in options available in the regular camera app and many filters that can change the look of new photos taken within the app or pictures already on the device.
The main screen of Alt Photo allows users to take a photo using either the rear-facing camera or the front-facing camera, or select a photo that is already on the device. There is also a button to change the pixel aspect ratio. Some of the features in the standard camera app are included, like tap to focus and flash.
After taking or selecting a photo it is super easy to apply one of over 15 different borders around the photo, such as a grunge border, an “old style border," or just a standard white border. Alt Photo also enables users to adjust the brightness of photos by tapping and swiping. A strong point of the app is all of the filters that are included. There are 6 categories of filters to choose between, ranging from “Toy Camera” and “Black and White Film," to “Vintage Color” and “Color Film." Each category of filters contains at least 5 filters, so there are over 30 different filters to choose from.
Although Alt Photo does duplicate many of the features found in the default camera app that comes preinstalled on all iPhones, it lacks a one of its key features: pinch to zoom. Also, unlike other photo editing apps in lacks support for cropping, and has no contrast adjustment.
A neat feature of Alt Photo is that the effects that are applied to the 50 most recent shots can be edited after the fact. The app also includes ways to share directly to social networks, such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
Alt Photo is not the most full featured and comprehensive photo editing app out there but it does offer many good editing options, filters, and borders. Any photo-junky that posts photos to Instagram or Facebook on a daily basis will definitely find some use in it.
