247 Missiles Review

Older gamers will immediately recognize the main concepts behind 247 Missiles. Clearly a homage to the 1980s arcade classic, Missile Command, this new interpretation proves to be quite enjoyable if still just as challenging as previous versions.

For the uninitiated, 247 Missiles is all about protecting major cities from enemy attack. No explanation is really offered as to why the cities are being attacked but it's really not that important. All that is important is that at least one of the cities survives each level, otherwise it's game over. Players stop their destruction by tapping on a spot to direct missiles in order to, hopefully, destroy enemy missiles before they get to their destination. The difficulty comes in the timing. These missiles are moving targets so players have to adjust their aim accordingly, often aiming quite far ahead of where the enemy weaponry currently is, in order to destroy it.

In the case of 247 Missiles, there are varying speeds for both the enemy and the allied forces. Submarines and ships form the basis of attack for the player with the submarine's weaponry firing faster yet causing a smaller explosion than the ship. This needs to be taken into account to ensure that accuracy remains high. Something that's quite important given this affects the reloading potential of the forces. Similarly, the enemy fires at varying speed making it vital that the player quickly identifies the most severe threat first. Some missiles, for instance, split into numerous waves, making it all the more dangerous yet also offering the opportunity to take them all out at once.

It's an enjoyable way of initiating battle and while 247 Missiles is pretty challenging, it's fun to master. After an enemy missile is destroyed, coins become available which can be collected in order to purchase various upgrades. These relate to the fighting forces as well as the cities that must be saved. It adds a reason to keep playing, with such forces slowly becoming stronger and stronger.

Ultimately, there's a very simple concept behind 247 Missiles but it's a fun one to delve into. With the added sense of nostalgia, there's all the more reason to enjoy this old school delight.
