With the new year upon us, it’s time to speculate what the future might hold for mobile gaming in 2016. It’s a fast moving industry at the best of times, and that looks set to be a trend that will continue this year.

Here are our predictions for what might occur in the next 12 months.

3D Touch becomes more significant

It’s been an interesting, if not incredibly exciting start for 3D Touch on theiPhone 6s.

AG Drive and Warhammer 40,000: Freeblade have done a great job of demonstrating what can be achieved on a basic level, but it's likely that we'll see it embraced much more so in the coming year.

Imagine playing FIFA16 and being able to pass the ball soft or hard through the pressure of your finger alone? Or being able to jump higher in Rayman Adventures by holding your finger down that bit harder?

Hopefully, 3D touch is the beginning of something special for tactile gaming.

A MOBA of huge proportions

The rise of the MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) has been meteoric thanks toLeague of Legends and DOTA 2 captivating the attention of PC gamers.

Attempts have been made to emulate that success on iOS - with Vainglory standing out in particular - but none have proved quite so popular as the PC favorites.

That could change in 2016, as mobile is the perfect landscape for a genre like this.

More updates and expansions for established titles

The App Store is a fairly mature market now, so it's harder for established titles to remain relevant.

Games can’t just rest on their laurels, and simply provide updates that fix bugs or make small tweaks - they need to provide substantial content boosts too.

That’s only going to increase this year, with your older favorites fighting hard to stay fresh alongside newer titles.
