Particularly thinking of BB & WM apps that do video streaming while those apps on the iPhone are restricted from doing so. One example of this is the Slingbox app -- available on other platforms and allowed to stream over 3G while on the iPhone it's restricted to WiFi only.
/Jeff

The issue is not really with AT&T, though I share the frustration of most commenters with that company and agree, furiously, the upgrade cost is outrageous. I place the responsibility on Apple. AT&T is a phone company, and this is what phone companies do to their phone users. Apple has failed to make the case, to AT&T or any other company, that the iPhone is not really a phone. It's a mobile computer that can make phone calls. Its most loyal audience wants the new features on the mobile platform. Hell, cut and paste alone justifies an upgrade. There are no real changes in what the phone can do, only in what the mobile platform can do. This is an issue that Apple should think long and hard about. My vote would be for Apple to disconnect its device from all phone companies and compel any phone company that wishes to partner with Apple to do so on terms that suit the mobile computer platform's audience.

I don't really blame ya. I don't think I'm going to be upgrading either, just not worth it. ATT really dropped the ball on this one.

The MMS isn't ready - they aren't doing it on purpose. The tethering, that's another issue. I'm not defending AT&T, my phone drops more calls than ... something that happens a lot.

I don't get why AT&T is shooting themselves in the foot so badly in being the main carrier for the iPhone. It seems so very short sighted and, well, stupid. Apple should realize that they are married to an abusive spouse in AT&T, I hope they are smart enough to break it off and start dating other carriers.

Your not on your own in the States, OK the UK is getting MMS (4 texts to 1 MMS) and tethering (3GB £15) but the upgrade is £200 to pay up your 6 months left from the iPhone 3G launch and then up to £275 for the 32GB iPhone. Wow $750 just to get a a new camera, voice dialling and a compass! Sorry but this is the reason Nokia still lead the market in phones. This is just prohibitive. I for one will be waiting till the end of my 18 months and then selling my 3G to fund my 3GS.
Thank you 02...

Hear, hear! I don't have an iPhone simply because I do not like AT&T. I am desperately hoping that in 2010 Verizon gets in on the iPhone. Minute that happens I will gladly shell out the $$$ for one.

The fact that AT&T will not be providing ANY initial support for MMS really pisses me the hell off. For starters, Apple is known for getting things out and getting them out right, so when a company won't hold up on their end, I'm thinking Apple is taking notice and won't be renewing their contract. I won't be upgrading to the 3GS, at all. For some strange reason, it seems like an 'intermediate' device. With not as many upgrades than the previous, and no design change, I'm going to hold out for the next iPhone. The tethering also pissed me off. While other networks already have their shit together, AT&T is just dicking around with the fact that they are the exclusive iPhone carrier in the U.S. In other countries, this kind of stupidity would not be tolerated, and they could simply use another service. It's different over there, as they buy the hardware and carriers as separate entities.

Ugh, so pissed.
