Back when it was announced that Nintendo was going to start working on mobile games, it was tough not to expect the worst. Granted we still haven't really seen anything substantial from the console juggernaut on iOS yet, but if the new trailer for Pokémon GO is any indication things might just turn out alright.

Seriously though, have you seen this thing? Of course it's all special effects and whatnot but the idea of an augmented reality Pokémon game where you go around the real world capturing and battling with them is genius in its simplicity. It's also been done before, but with Niantic (the team behind Ingress) and Nintendo working together there's potential for something really special here. That andJunichi Masuda, Game Freak's Director, also has a hand in it.

Pokémon GO will be available as a free download when it releases on the App Store in 2016. And if you're feeling particularly into it you can also keep an eye out for the Pokémon GO Plus - a bluetooth device that can be used with the app to catch Pokémon with a single button press and to receive alerts. It's not required to play, but it's sort of like having a tiny Pokéball so you just know people are going to want it.
