Have you just downloaded Super Awesome Quest! and you're not sure where to begin? Don’t worry about it! We’ve got you covered with our handy beginner’s guide, ready to get you all set up and flying through the early levels.

Starting Out

  • Right at the start, you get the choice of two heroes. You can control either Greg the Paladin or Val the Valkyrie. Don’t fret too much, though. Once you reach stage 8 you can unlock the other one and switch between them as and when you like.
  • As you play, you’ll learn that the different characters offer different benefits, so try to keep their levels about equal. This will seem trickier at first, but you’ll soon get used to regularly switching between the two.

The Tiles Have It

  • You can hold a finger to a tile to be told exactly what it does, but to save you some effort, here’s a rundown of what it all means.
  • Plan ahead with your tiles. If all the opened tiles are of no use to you, you have to tap on an empty space, skipping a move, and that’s a perfect time for your enemy to fight back.
  • Attack tiles come in a variety of forms. Attack 1 is a mere 10+15 physical damage, while Attack 2 adds another 10 damage to that, and so forth. These attack tiles can be combined and that’s worth remembering. Sometimes, you’re better off using a flurry of linked Attack 1 tiles, rather than 1 Attack 3 tile. Other times, you’re better off using that single Attack 3 tile in order to unlock more tiles. Plan accordingly.
  • There are plenty of defensive tiles too. Reflect shields enable you to reflect physical and magical damage for two turns, while a protect shield means you’re strong against physical and magic attacks for three turns.
  • Charge tile buff your attacks by 10 for two turns, purification removes all negative status effects, while heal tiles heal you, strangely enough.
  • Sometimes, the board turns quite useless for you. This is when you can use a reset tile to reset the board and hopefully end up in a better position.

Other Tips

  • Don’t forget to use your power up potions. You can use these to damage your enemies as well as heal yourself, or block attacks. Save them for particularly tough battles.
  • Don’t forget to return to earlier stages often. Each of them has multiple star for you to gain, better crafting items to pick up, as well as opportunities for more experience. All of this will make later levels easier to pass.
  • Bored of watching your character saunter across the screen to a distant stage? Skip it by tapping on the banner a second time.
  • Crafting is a big part of the game, but luckily it’s quite well laid out. You’re always told what’s possible to craft at any time. Keep your equipment balanced for the best results.
  • You can customize how your hero looks through the customization screen. It’s a simple but fun tweak. You can win new options through the Endless Arena, as well as Boss stages.
