Shadow Bug Rush: How to chase after the highest score
Shadow Bug Rush is an endless runner that follows in the footsteps of its predecessor, Shadow Bug. Where Shadow Bug was more of an atmospheric platforming adventure, Shadow Bug Rush sacrifices the original’s structure for frantic, high score chasing fun.
The mechanics are mostly in tact -- you can move back and forth and stab at your enemies -- but this time around, as is the nature of endless runners, you’ll need to keep moving or risk getting killed. Things can move a bit fast, especially if you’re new to the game. Follow these tips to survive and become an all powerful Shadow Bug.
Ignore the gems
Shiny things are pretty, but resist the temptation to go out of your way for them. As you race your way through the levels, you don't really have time to go treasure hunting. Instead, let the gems come to you. They're drawn to you as you pass by, so you don't have to worry about collecting them yourself. Save you're energy for dashing and slashing.
Spring from enemy to enemy
The tutorial isn't especially clear on aerial combat. You're told to hold onto the screen to perform aerial combat, but you also need to know how to handle multiple enemies. If you're up against a group of flying baddies, tap each new enemy to quickly fly from monster to monster. It's much faster than falling back to the ground and running up to your next opponent, especially when those scary saws are nipping at your back with every second you waste!
Sometimes monsters are your only means of transportation
Sometimes the environment can betray you, and your only means of progressing is by jumping from monster to monster, making the above tip particularly important. While it's important to master propelling yourself from one beast to the next, you should also be planning ahead. Look to see if monsters are flying in a particular path, or if the way ahead poses any danger if you happen to fall or have some sort of misstep. Constant vigilance is key!
