Reigns getting new cards in February; Sequel announced

Reigns was easily one of our favorite games of the year, and we won't soon forget it. In fact, Devolver Digital will see to that as they launch a fresh batch of cards that give us a few more story options and maps to flesh out the original experience. We loved Reigns for its clever, multi-layered storytelling and endless wit, and we're excited to see more of it with this free expansion.

However, developer Nerial didn't stop there with the announcements. In an interview with JeuxVideo, Reigns creator François Alliot announced Reigns 2. The sequel changes things up, putting a queen on the throne this time around, with an emphasis on politics as opposed to plagues and bloody crusades as the game moves to more of an 18th century baroque setting. Alliot says the team is looking to explore "feminine" power in more depth, so we're hoping to see more interesting, in-depth dynamics based on female rulers of history. The team's even hired a dedicated writer to ensure that the story is given extra polish.

We don't have an exact release date yet forReigns 2,nor do we know which platforms the game will launch on. Judging by the game's massive success on mobile, though, we'll likely be holding the game in our hands sooner rather than later.
