Progressive Alarm Clock - The One That Actually Runs In The Background

It didn't hit me til our review of Sleep Cycle Alarm Clock many months ago, but alarm clocks are a big business in the App Store. Each of them are touting different things, from sleep trackers to sound customization to social network integration, but not many seem to focus on the fundamental task of making the iPhone resemble a real, fully functioning alarm clock.

According to Brad Fullmer, the developer of Progressive Alarm Clock, his app is the first alarm clock app that actually runs in the background. Sure, there are plenty of apps that have notifications that run in the background to wake you, but they are limited to 30 second alarms with no option to snooze. Once the alarm is done, you'd better be up because the app won't try to wake you again.

Unlike the other alarm apps, Progressive Alarm Clock plays the alarm sounds until you actually wake up, works with the silent switch on, and allows for the always handy snooze button. The app wakes you up to "the beautiful sounds of the Tibetan singing bowl," and will ring louder the longer the alarm is on. If you don't like the standard bells, you can choose between 5 other bells, all resembling different sizes and metal compositions. And if you don't like bells, you're out of luck. Progressive Alarm Clock is not Burger King.

While I don't think that Progressive Alarm Clock will wake me up quite as well as the famed helicopter alarm clock, it may just do the trick.
