Believe it or not, Pokémon GO launched nearly a year ago, setting the mobile gaming world on fire. Niantic's gearing up to celebrate Pokémon GO's one-year anniversary alongside 750 million global downloads with the new Solstice Event.

Starting on June 13, the Solstice Event will feature Fire and Ice-type Pokémon this time around. One top of that, players will be treated to some serious XP bonuses if they throw Pokéballs accurately and Lucky Eggs will be available for a discount. Niantic will be rolling out an update around the same time that will introduce new group features that will allow trainers to team up like never before. However, the developers will be disabling gyms while they prepare for these changes.

That's not all you have to look forward to, though. Niantic has a number of special celebrations planned throughout the summer to get you out and moving in the name of all things Pokémon. Pokémon GO is kicking off its first real in-person event this summer --Pokémon GO Fest Chicago. The event will be held on July 22 in Chicago's Grant Park. Tickets go on sale on June 19 at 10:00 a.m. PDT on the event's website. Events throughout Europe and Japan are also in the works, with more details to follow.

Will you be spending the summer with Pokémon GO? Tell us what you think of these new events in the comments.
