Niantic is saying thanks to its Pokémon GO fans with a new event set just in time for Thanksgiving. Starting on Wednesday, November 23, players will earn double XP and Stardust when completing tasks in-game. The event will run until midnight UTC, so fans everywhere will have a chance to participate in the event.

In a letter to trainers Niantic said:

"It has been an incredible experience since we launched Pokémon GO a few short months ago in July. We are passionate about creating experiences that encourage exploration and promote exercise. We are humbled that hundreds of millions of you around the world have joined us on this journey. So we would like to say thank you - and what better way to say thank you than to celebrate our community."

Pokémon GO's Halloween event was a huge success, bringing back players in large numbers with the promise of extra candies and the appearance of ghostly Pokémon. While this Thanksgiving event isn't quite as in-depth as the Halloween festivities, it's still a nice touch and definitely shows that Niantic is committed to doing more of these holiday-themed events in the future.

Following in this trend, it's perfectly plausible that Niantic will be doing something to celebrate Christmas and New Years. Perhaps another candy bonus, or extra ice-type Pokémon, or, dare we dream, shiny Pokémon? We still have a month to find out, but we can expect to see events like this to continue.
