deja mi, a social networking and photo-sharing app with a business focus on local businesses, has just been released. deja mi is location-based. It gives users a stream of the happenings in their own city through the eyes of other locals. And, like Instagram, the app provides filters and frames to play with the photos before they’re uploaded.

The app also has a reward system, similar to mayors from Foursquare, but this app allows users to vote for the “Best in Show” at each venue they visit. There are also medals to earn.

deja mi’s business model focuses on local businesses that sign up with their program. Their pilot program for the app was started in the Raleigh area of North Carolina where they signed up 30 local businesses as subscribers to their beta program (bars, restaurants, and entertainment venues). I expect we’ll see more local business spring up on deja mi soon.

deja mi also has a working website for the social network for users that don’t have access to an iPhone. Check it out here.
