We got our first glimpse of the Neko Atsume live-action movie, and it looks like it could actually be pretty decent. Rather than watching someone laze about their apartment trying to lure cats to their garden all day, the movie tells the story of Katsu Sakumoto (Atsushi Ito), a man who's tasked with taking care of a suburban home. He soon discovers that the house is a popular gathering place for an oddball variety of cats. But there's more to it than that--Katsu also has to get acquainted with his new neighborhood, and naturally there's a lady in the equation with whom he has a number of cringe-worthy run-ins.

If you missed 2015's Neko Atsume craze, it's a charming Japanese game in which you set out toys and treats to attract a diverse cast of neighborhood kitties to your house in order to add their photos to your album. It's a good time whether or not you're a cat lover. The real draw were the rare cats you could collect, including clever Anna Wintour and Puss in Boots cats. And let's not for the pesky Manzoku-san, or Tubbs in the English version, who would sneak in and eat all of your expensive cat food while you weren't looking.

The live-action movie based on the game was first announced in November, when a Japanese source revealed that the game already had a director, writer, and actor tied to the project. The film is out in Japan on April 8, though there's no word yet on whether it will be coming to the west.
