Meet Heckerty is a delightful interactive storybook app that introduces children to a relatable witch named Heckerty whom children will really enjoy.

The story is a charming introduction to the character of Heckerty, as she explains how here face turned green by a botched potion that was originally concocted to clear her skin of warts and spots before having her photo taken.

This story is told in the first person, with fabulous narration that really brings this character to life as well as including highlighted words and the chance to tap any word to hear it spoken. This book can also be read by oneself, but I am happy to announce that this narration is on my short list of best narration heard in an application to date.

I appreciate the sophisticated nature of this story’s structure told in a flashback as this witch explains how her face turned green, as well as this story opening up with Heckerty being in a frustrated mood which children will find relatable while never off-putting.

Simple illustrations are included that become animated with a tap. I admire the choice to keep the drawings auxiliary with the text center stage, keeping the focus on the storytelling which is quite engaging, as are the antics that ensue as Heckerty and her faithful cat work on a potion together with unintended results.

It is easy to recommend this app as adults and children will both love this story as do I.

I look forward to more stories about Heckerty from the “Love Heckerty” series of stories which were created by London’s Royal Storyteller, as this app is of a very high quality.
